OPS member charged with sexual assault

(Ottawa) – A member of the Ottawa Police Service has been charged with 21 criminal offences as the result of an investigation by the OPS Sexual Assault Child Abuse Section (SACA).

Eric POST, 47, a Constable with the Ottawa Police, was arrested this morning by SACA investigators.

He has been charged with:

  • Sexual Assault x2
  • Point a firearm
  • Careless Storage of a firearm
  • Possess Weapon Dangerous x2
  • Harassment by Repeated Communication x4
  • Uttering Threats x2
  • Assault x5
  • Intimidation by threat of Violence
  • Forcible Entry
  • Forcible Confinement  x2

The charges are related to four separate victims. POST will appear in show cause court this afternoon.

He was suspended from duty with the OPS on June 13, 2018. He will remain under suspension.

OPS notified the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (OSIU) of the allegations in accordance with the Police Services Act. Further to that discussion, the investigation was conducted by the OPS at the request of the OSIU.

The investigation is ongoing. SACA investigators are concerned there could be other victims and are encouraging them to come forward.

“These allegations and charges are very serious. They run counter to our values and I recognize this information will be disturbing to hear for our community and the members of our service. We must now allow the court process to proceed. I want to thank the investigators who have worked on this file for their professionalism,” said Chief Charles Bordeleau.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service tip line at 613-236-1222, ext. 5760 or email: mcm@ottawapolice.ca
