(LEEDS, ON.) –   Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leeds County are continuing an investigation after a suspect fleeing from police leads them to Ottawa.

On July 15, 2018 at about 7:30 AM, officers of the Leeds County OPP detachment were dispatched to a gas theft at the Highway 401 westbound On Route in Mallorytown. The vehicle in question was stolen earlier that morning from an UBER driver in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Township.

A Leeds County OPP officer located the vehicle on Highway 401 and eventually lost sight. Reports were that Gananoque Police Service now had entered into an investigation with the same vehicle that was now back on Highway 401 eastbound.

Further reports were that the vehicle, now on Highway 401, eventually drove to Highway 416 northbound and then southbound after a brief encounter with Grenville OPP. Ottawa OPP had two police cruisers damaged in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and driver arrested after a tire deflation device was utilized as the driver exited Highway 416 into Ottawa.

24 year old Furqan HABIBI of Mississauga faces charges of Dangerous Driving, Driving while Disqualified, Theft of Gas, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Stop for Police and Mischief. He is scheduled to appear for bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial division in Brockville on July 16, 2018.

Investigation continues with Toronto Police Service and with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
