(LEEDS, ON.) –   Members of the Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County stopped a driver for filming a collision scene.

On December 15, 2017 at about 1:10 p.m., officers of the Leeds County OPP detachment were investigating a collision on Highway 401 east of Lansdowne during adverse weather conditions. An eastbound driver was observed videotaping the collision using her cell phone as she drove past.

A 67 year old Nepean female was stopped and issued a provincial offences notice for using a Handheld Communication Device while Driving.

Leeds OPP Acting Staff Sergeant Josh Kingsley said “The vast majority of drivers over-estimate their skills behind the wheel and under-estimate the risk associated with distracted driving. They believe that because they’ve done it numerous times before and nothing bad has happened that nothing bad will happen. That is not the case. Families could have their lives changed forever, and for what?”

OPP are reminding all motorists that the minimum fine upon conviction is $490 and 3 demerit points.
