Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 147 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on August 10, 2017. Of these, 93 calls occurred in the city central area, 29 in the west end, 5 in the east end, and 5 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

• 1 traffic concern
• 14 suspicious activity calls
• 2 drug calls

There were 8 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 5 men and 3 women, between 25 and 51 years of age, for the following: impaired driving, fail to provide breath sample, break and enter, possession of break-in tools, theft, breach recognizance, and breach probation.

Impaired Driver Caught After Erratic Driving in Front of Officer

A 51-year-old local woman was caught driving while impaired by alcohol after an officer witnessed her erratic driving behaviour.

On August 10, 2017 at approximately 11:30 p.m. a patrol officer observed the accused make an erratic turn from Drayton Street onto Concession Street. The driver then proceeded very slowly while wandering around the roadway before speeding up and then coming to nearly a complete stop to make another erratic turn. The officer conducted a traffic stop and when the driver pulled over she attempted to get out of the vehicle without putting it into park.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to police headquarters where she refused to provide breath samples. The accused was charged with impaired driving and fail to provide breath sample.

The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) with a future court date. Her driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Man Gets Little of Value after Climbing Wall to Commit Break and Enter

A 45-year-old local man found little of value to steal after climbing over a wall to break into a manufacturing area.

On August 9, 2017 at approximately 4:30 p.m. the accused was captured on surveillance cameras climbing over a wall to enter a manufacturing area at Sir John A MacDonald Boulevard and Princess Street. The accused gained access to one building where he searched thoroughly for valuable property before stealing two items worth less than $30 combined.

The investigating officer recognized the accused from the video and approximately 24 hours later he was caught by Detectives who spotted him walking down Fraser Street.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. The accused was charged with break and enter and theft.

Break and Enter Suspect Identified and Arrested

A 47-year-old local man has been arrested in relation to a break and enter into an apartment building on Armstrong Road on July 17, 2017.

On August 9, 2017 the accused was identified through investigation by members of the Kingston Police Criminal Investigation Branch.

On August 10, 2017 at approximately 6:00 p.m. a patrol officer observed the accused at a coffee shop at Princess Street and Sydenham Road. The accused ran and then attempted to resist arrest when the officer caught him after a foot chase.

Bolt cutters, a screwdriver, a flashlight and other tools commonly associated with break and enter were found in his backpack.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with break and enter, possession of break-in tools, and two counts of breach probation.

Donation Jar Thief Caught

A 25-year-old Ottawa woman was arrested after being caught on surveillance cameras steeling twice in two days.

On August 2, 2017 at approximately 10:15 a.m. the accused was in the store/check-in-area of a campground north of the City. While in the store the accused placed a towel she was carrying overtop a large donation jar. She then removed the jar from the counter and walked away. The jar was a collection being taking to support two brothers in Kenya to go to school and was estimated to have at least $200 to $300 in cash.

On August 3, 2017 at approximately 1:15 p.m. the accused attended a grocery store on Midland Avenue. The accused placed several items of clothing over her shoulder and walked out without paying.

Both incidents were caught on surveillance cameras. The accused was identified by Detectives with information provided by store security and partially through social media posts.

On August 10, 2017 at approximately 2:15 p.m. the accused was found sleeping in her car in a parking lot on Bath Road.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with two counts of theft.

Nervous Vehicle Occupants Caught with Marijuana, Meth and Cocaine

A 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old man both of Kingston have been arrested for drug possession after their nervous behaviour drew the attention of officers.

On August 10, 2017 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Kingston Police Street Crime Unit officers observed a vehicle parked at Princess Street and Chatham Street. The two male occupants appeared nervous at the sight of the officers and drove off.

The officers followed the vehicle to Railway Street where the driver accelerated to approximately 90 km/h. The officers pulled over the vehicle and observed suspected marijuana and a purple water pipe (bong) inside the vehicle.

The driver was arrested for possession of the marijuana. Upon examining a box he had on his legs, officers discovered bags containing a suspected crystal methamphetamine and cocaine. A search of the contents of the vehicle revealed additional baggies of suspected crystal and pill methamphetamine in a bag belonging to the passenger.

The passenger was arrested and both men were transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The 25-year-old was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and the 27-year-old was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
